August 2014 Issue

Late Summer Splendor

The heat of summer is upon us, in the Northern Hemisphere. I relish the long days of sun and light, and feel the stirring as I notice them slowly getting shorter. In no time at all, Autumn will be here.

I have been having lots of difficulty doing indoor activities, and so this newsletter has been neglected. I have written a few more Yin Yoga articles, for you to see below. It is harder to have indoor yoga classes and to balance all of the activity of summer with a Yin practice. However, do try to take a few minutes each day, at least, to do at least one pose. Your body will thank you later!

New Articles This Month for your Yin Yoga Practice

My focus in my latest Yin Yoga articles is on hip opening. The hips are storehouses of strong emotions. When we work on our hips to soften and open them, often lots of old stuff arises. This is therapeutic, if you do not resist this movement of energy!

Remember that working on the hips helps you balance your 2nd chakra energy, so that your prana or life force energy can freely flow throughout your body!

If you are new to the therapeutic effects of long-held poses in the yin practice, please visit my article for more explanation at What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga's Square Pose
The Square Pose in yin yoga, is perhaps the strongest hip-opener in all of yoga.

Yin Yoga's Half-Square Pose
The Half Square Pose is a a milder version of the Square Pose, but still a lovely hip-opener and just as therapeutic if you have tight hips!

Yin Yoga's Shoelace Pose
The Shoelace Pose is a deep hip opener and requires more mindfulness than most poses!
